IT'S A GIRL THING!!!
Thanks for visiting us on our web site. My name is Carla Gohlke, Coach Gohlke to the girls. I have been teaching and coaching for 24 years. I started out here at Merkel when I graduated from ACU back in 1977. After 3 years we moved to Ranger, Texas and we were there for 15 years. For the past ten years we have been back in good ole' Merkel,Texas... home of the Badgers. I have coached volleyball,track and tennis at both schools. For
the past few years I have been coaching tennis. Next year I will be hanging up my whistle and using it only in the PE gym.
My husband Martin and I have been married for 30 years. We have three boys or should I say young men. Chad and his wife Kasey both coach in San Antonio. They both graduated from Hardin Simmons. My middle son just graduated from ACU and is doing an intern with them this summer developing web pages for their departments. Cody is my youngest son and he just completed his second year at ACU. He is studying to be a physical therapist.
In my gym I have 6th-8th grade girls coming to class every day. We have lots of fun and physical activities to meet their needs. One of their favorite units is the "BEACHBALL TOURNAMENT." We wear beach style clothes,sun glasses, hats, lay on beach towels and listen to the Beach Boys while we play beach ball.
I find that when my students are having fun and enjoy what they are doing we have less disturbances and more involvement.
