Hello! Welcome to 6th grade Math! My name is Jana Eckert. This is my 20th year at Merkel Middle School. I have lived in Abilene most of my life. I attended Hardin Simmons University and graduated with an Elementary Education degree with a minor in Mathematics.

This promises to be a very exciting year for us. We are learning many things to help us in the every day world. Some of the things we are learning are very challenging, but we are managing to survive. We are not only concentrating on the basic math skills, which we are finding helps us in all areas, but we are developing higher level thinking skills through deductive logic activities. One of the things we are learning to do is to verbally express what we are doing with numbers instead of just simple computation. It will be a great year! I look forward to many adventures!
