Hello, my name is Lisa Britt and I am the school counselor for Merkel Middle School. I’ve been here at Merkel Middle School 20 years. In this time I’ve come to love this community, the school, and the students. It seems like home to me. My own middle school years were spent in Kenya. I attended high school in Iran and Kuwait. The exposure to other cultures has given me an appreciation for people’s differences and an appreciation for America and her many opportunities.
I feel the role of the counselor is to guide students as they focus on academic, personal/social and career development. We all want students to achieve success in school and become prepared to lead fulfilling independent lives. Everyday, middle school students face challenges such as; tough courses, peer pressure, eating disorders, depression, school violence, as well as many others. I don’t have the answers to all of life’s challenges, but I have a lot of resources. Let me know if I can help guide you and/or your student through the challenges of middle school as they prepare for high school.
